Stuart Smith
Stuart Smith started the Clarinet at age 11 in Oxfordshire. He studied at Trinity College of Music with Keith Puddy, Joan Enric Lluna, Nicholas Bucknall, Fiona Cross and Anthony Jennings (bass clarinet) gaining a bachelors degree in 2000 and a postgraduate advanced diploma in 2002.
Since 2002 Stuart has continued his studies privately in the USA and UK and in masterclasses with many renowned clarinettists. He has enjoyed success in a number of competitions, notably the Gladys Puttick Prize for Extemporization, Oxford Orchestra Da Camera Soloists Competition, NYOS Staff Award and the Trinity College of Music Soloists Competition.
Stuart enjoys the intimacy of chamber music and has appeared with a wide range of ensembles including Acroama, Triality, Clariphonics, the London Breakbeat Orchestra and with the pianist Michael Taylor. He has appeared as a soloist across the UK and Europe and recently appeared as part of the Hampstead and Highgate Festival and Jewish Festival of London. His performances have been broadcast on Classic FM and BBC Radio Oxford and he has performed concertos with a number of orchestras in London, Oxford and the South East.
